Tom is a first-year PhD student under co-advisors Dr. Susan Paskewitz and Dr. Lyric Bartholomay. Tom earned his B.S. in 2017 at UW-Madison where he first gained experience in vector-borne disease working on West Nile virus surveillance in Wisconsin.  He completed an MPH degree at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, during which he worked with the MCEVBD to identify and characterize the first reported Aedes albopictus invasion into the state. Tom spent the past several years at the University of Michigan working on longitudinal cohort studies, but he is excited to return to the world of vector-borne disease. He will be studying the behavior of Peromyscus sp. mice and other small mammals, and how that behavior may help or hinder efforts to control tick-borne disease.
